Trinity Washington University part-time faculty voted to join SEIU Local 500 on Friday, June 5, becoming the sixth university in the District of Columbia to have their adjunct faculty choose to form a union and join Local 500.
Mitch Tropin, an adjunct at Trinity, was thrilled at the victory and ready for the next steps:
“This was a great day for Trinity Washington University, the students and for the part-time faculty,” said Mitch Tropin, adjunct professor of communications at Trinity. “This vote establishing a union for adjuncts gives us a unified voice and clear channel for us to be heard. We look forward to collective bargaining as the first of many dialogues that will set a course for making Trinity an even better institution, while also establishing a first contract that respects adjuncts’ vital contributions to the Trinity community. I teach at Montgomery College, as well, which has a well-established part-time faculty union, so I know from experience this will have a positive effect on the important educational mission of the University.”
