Muslim Ban

On Friday, January 27th, President Trump signed an Executive Order severely restricting the ability of refugees to enter our country.  The order focused in particular on several Muslim-majority countries.  The order was issued without regard for the facts that refugees have not been found to bring terrorism or crime, and the existing “vetting” process for refugees was extensive, lasting 1 ½ years to 2 years, and working effectively.

The new Executive Order was more a matter of political grandstanding than homeland security.

Our parent organization, Service Employees International Union, is asking to be informed if any SEIU members, or family members of SEIU members, are being affected by the Muslim-ban Executive Order. There are important legal considerations for those planning to leave this country, even for those who hold a “green card.”

If you or your family are affected, please let us know as soon as possible, by calling the Union office at 301-740-7100 or by sending an email to schwartzs@seiu500.org.
