On November 29-30, an election was held at Howard University in Washington DC on whether to not to form a collective bargaining unit of full-time non-tenure track faculty with SEIU Local 500. We are very proud to announce that the union was overwhelmingly approved with a 2-1 ratio of yes to no votes.
As the faculty organizers, we want to thank all the voters, supporters, volunteers, and SEIU organizers who made this important step possible.
There is still a lot of work to be done. We are excited to continue making positive changes and fight to bring more stability to the employment of a large number of faculty Howard, the profession as a whole, and most importantly, to the experiences of our students in our classrooms. We look forward to continuing working as a collective to make our voices heard on campus and being part of SEIU Local 500.
