Your union has won a tobacco surcharge refund for thousands of MCPS employees

Great news! We heard from many of you about how the confusion around the timing of the tobaccao attestion resulted in a surcharge which would have huge financial consequences. And we went to work to fight to make you whole.

We are proud to announce that your union has negotiated a refund for MCPS employees who had the tobacco surcharge deducted from their paycheck, even though theycompleted a tobacco-free attestation between August 23 through October 8, 2017 or between December 22, 2017 through today, January 19, 2018.

This one-time refund will appear in your March 2, 2018 paycheck.

If you completed the tobacco-free attestation during the open enrollment period at the end of last year, you should not have been charged. If you were charged AND if you completed the attestation during the open enrollment period, please contact ERSC.

We were only able to achieve this refund because SEIU Local 500 activists worked tirelessly to build our strength in the workplace and in the community.

But that strength depends on the willingness of union members to RESPECT, COMMIT, EDUCATE and ADVOCATE for their contract, their benefits and their students.

Sign a Commitment Card today and pledge to help win more victories like this one.
