Hispanic Caucus Institute Internships, Fellowships and Scholarship

SEIU has partnered with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) over the last 5 years and we wanted to share pertinent information of interest to SEIU members and their children, particularly Latino members.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is seeking Hispanic American students for its nationally recognized leadership development programs. SEIU has consistently contributed to CHCI to help fund CHCI internships, fellowships and scholarships geared towards Latino students.

The Congressional Internship Program is open to undergraduates and provides students with 10 or 12-week internships in Washington, D.C. The program provides housing, roundtrip transportation, and a $3750 or $2500 stipend.

The internship deadlines are:

  • Spring 2010 semester: November 13, 2009
  • Summer 2010: February 5, 2010
  • Fall 2010 semester: April 30, 2010

The Public Policy Fellowship Program provides recent college graduates with hands-on public policy experience in a congressional office, federal agency, nonprofit sector, or corporate setting from August through May. Benefits include travel, healthcare, and a monthly stipend. The deadline is February 19, 2010.

CHCI's Graduate & Young Professional Fellowship Program offers a nine-month placement in the underserved public policy areas of health, housing, international affairs, and law to young Latinos with a graduate degree or equivalent three years professional experience in the policy field. Benefits include travel, healthcare, and a monthly stipend. The deadline is February 19, 2010.

CHCI Scholarships: CHCI's scholarship opportunities are afforded to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. There is no GPA or academic major requirement. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply. The Deadline is April 16, 2010.
