SEIU Recommends Nancy Navarro for County Council, District 4 Special Election
Primary Election on Tuesday, April 15, 2008

On Tuesday, SEIU Local 500's Committee on Political Education (COPE) interviewed candidates for the Special Election and made a recommendation to support
Nancy Navarro for County Council, District 4. The Executive Board confirmed their decision. Of the recommendation, Local 500 President Merle Cuttitta said, "Nancy Navarro will be a champion for working families on the County Council. She is a proven leader who we are proud to support."
Ruth Musicante, SEIU Local 500 Treasurer, Professional Growth Consultant in MCPS and County Council District 4 Resident, spoke at Nancy Navarro's Campaign Kickoff event on Monday, March 10. Ruth said, "Nancy has been a strong advocate for supporting service staff in MCPS. She has supported increased training opportunities for our members, including an innovative apprenticeship program. Nancy has also been outspoken about maintaining a culture of respect within MCPS and ensuring that all staff and students are equally respected."

Ms. Navarro currently serves as the President of the Montgomery County Board of Education and has been a strong supporter of Local 500's members. As a councilmember, Ms. Navarro "pledge[s] to work as a committed partner with colleagues on the Council, the County executive, community and business leaders on matters affecting land use, development, transportation and jobs-- with the goal of preserving and building thriving, livable communities all over our great county. Also, if elected, my work on the Council will continue to reflect my unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education and well-being of all the children of Montgomery County."
