Montgomery College Bargaining Update

Your Montgomery College SEIU Local 500 bargaining team has now completed three bargaining sessions. The union has presented non-economic proposals to the college, seeking greater job security, protections from arbitrary denials of reappointments, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a greater voice in the day-to-day decisions that impact you as educators.

Several more bargaining sessions are being scheduled, and progress will come with persistence and time. The College needs to recognize that the days of part time faculty simply accepting things as they are, with no voice for change, are now over.

We are at the table with the College at a crucial time. With Montgomery County facing projected deficits of over $250 million, we need to resolve our non economic differences so we can focus on working with the College to protect the interests of part-time faculty in these challenging economic times.
