Demand action from BOE & MCPS Leadership: Protect us and keep us safe!

The Executive Board and Leaders of SEIU Local 500 are asking ALL Support Staff Professionals to take action and demand safer and healthier working conditions for the entire MCPS community.

We, the members of SEIU Local 500, demand that Dr. McKnight and all MCPS leaders do the following:

  • Establish and communicate a plan with clear and consistent metrics and guidelines on when schools should transition to virtual learning. These factors must be considered:

o staffing shortages,

o staff, and student COVID rates,

o staff and student absenteeism, and

o other operational needs and challenges

  • Accurate reporting and data transparency on MCPS COVID dashboard

  • Opt-Out process for COVID student testing versus Opt-In process

  • Weekly testing for all staff and simplified COVID test reporting procedures

  • Additional COVID contact tracing support for all schools

  • Develop best communication practices for COVID exposure in schools and non-school-based offices

  • Clear guidance on requirements for submitting a positive staff COVID test and applying for needed COVID leave.

It’s time to advocate for ourselves, our families, and the students of MCPS. Please take a moment now and tell the Board of Education and MCPS Leadership: Protect us and keep us safe!
