Mission Statement

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) DC Bargaining Unit seeks to ensure that Planned Parenthood’s values are upheld and the organization’s work reflects our commitment to the communities we serve. Our mission is to unite the PPFA workers in DC to create a workplace that reflects the values of equity, compassion, and trust. We believe that in order to fulfill its mission, PPFA must treat all workers with respect, with transparency, and with a spirit of collaboration. We believe PPFA has a responsibility to foster this culture both at the national office and at Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country.

Our Process

With support from SEIU Local 500, a diverse group of D.C. employees representing a wide range of departments came together to negotiate a union contract with PPFA leadership. A brief timeline of the D.C. Bargaining Unit is below:

  • Labor Day 2016: PPFA staff in Washington, D.C. notified organizational leadership of their intent to file for union recognition. 

  • December 10, 2019: An agreement was reached with organizational leadership and union members unanimously ratified a union contract.

  • February 2020: The union contract was signed by both parties.
